Aronia Berry Juice

Aronia berry juice comes from the aronia berry, also known as the chokeberry. These berries are native to eastern North America and are known for their deep purple color and tart flavor. The juice is typically made by pressing the berries and may be sweetened or blended with other fruit juices.

Aronia berry juice is often used as a natural colorant, providing a deep red or purple hue to foods and beverages. It can also add a tart, fruity flavor. It is frequently found in fruit juices, smoothies, yogurts, and baked goods.

Aronia berry juice is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as a food ingredient. It is rich in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which are linked to potential health benefits in peer-reviewed studies. However, research is ongoing, and more studies are needed to confirm these effects in humans. JECFA has evaluated aronia berry juice and did not set a numeric limit (ADI not specified).
