Carnauba Wax And Beeswax

Carnauba wax is a hard, brittle wax derived from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree, native to Brazil. Beeswax is produced by honey bees to build their combs. Both are refined for use in food.

These waxes are used as glazing or coating agents. They help prevent moisture loss, add shine, and keep products from sticking together. They are commonly found in candies, baked goods, and some fruits and vegetables.

Carnauba wax and beeswax are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. They are not absorbed by the body and are considered non-toxic. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated them and established acceptable daily intakes. No significant health concerns are associated with their consumption at typical dietary levels.
