Onion Powder And Vegetable Juice Color

Onion powder is made from dehydrated onions that have been ground into a fine powder. Vegetable juice color is a natural coloring derived from vegetables, such as beets, carrots, or purple sweet potatoes. It is used to add or restore color to food products.

Onion powder provides the flavor of onions without the moisture and texture of fresh or dehydrated onion pieces. Vegetable juice color is used to enhance the visual appeal of foods. Both are often found in savory snacks, seasonings, sauces, and processed meats.

Onion powder is a common food ingredient and is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. Vegetable juice color is also considered safe by the FDA when used as intended. Neither ingredient has specific health concerns associated with typical consumption levels. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated many food additives, but specific evaluations for these ingredients at typical intake levels are not widely publicized.
