Red And Green Drizzle

Red and green drizzle is a confectionary topping made from sugar, corn syrup, and artificial colors. It is typically created by melting white chocolate or a similar base and then mixing in food dyes to achieve vibrant red and green hues. The mixture is then drizzled over food products.

Manufacturers use red and green drizzle primarily for visual appeal, adding a festive and decorative element to foods. It is commonly found on baked goods, snacks like popcorn and pretzels, and candies, especially during holidays like Christmas.

Red and green drizzle is made with sugar and artificial colors. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permits certain artificial colors in food, but some, like Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1, are part of a planned phase-out announced in April 2025. Evidence on the health effects of artificial colors is mixed, with some studies suggesting potential links to hyperactivity in children, while regulatory bodies like the FDA consider them safe at typical consumption levels. JECFA has evaluated many food colorings.
