And Sweet Potato Juice Concentrates

Sweet potato juice concentrate is made by extracting the juice from sweet potatoes and then concentrating it, usually by removing water. This process intensifies the natural color and flavor of the sweet potato. It is used as a natural coloring agent and a source of sweetness.

Manufacturers add sweet potato juice concentrate to provide a natural, vibrant color, often in shades of orange and red, to beverages, baked goods, and confectionery. It can also contribute a mild sweetness, reducing the need for other sweeteners. It is commonly found in fruit-flavored drinks, juices, and snacks.

Sweet potato juice concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as a food ingredient. It is a source of vitamins and antioxidants naturally found in sweet potatoes. Regulatory bodies like EFSA have evaluated similar natural colorings, but specific evaluations for sweet potato juice concentrate may vary. At typical intake levels found in food, it is not associated with adverse health effects.
