What it is

Apple and grape juice concentrates are made by removing water from apple and grape juices. This process results in a thicker, more concentrated liquid that retains the flavor and sweetness of the original fruits.

Why it's used

They are primarily used as sweeteners and flavorings in a variety of food products. Manufacturers also use them as a base for fruit drinks, jellies, and other processed foods, providing natural fruit flavor and color.

Health notes

Apple and grape juice concentrates are considered food ingredients, not food additives. They contribute sugars to food products. The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend no amount of added sugars and at most 10 grams of added sugars per meal.
