Beet Juice Extract And Turmeric

Beet juice extract and turmeric are natural colorants derived from plants. Beet juice extract comes from beets, while turmeric is a spice from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. Both are processed to extract and concentrate their coloring compounds.

These ingredients are used to provide natural red and yellow colors, respectively, in a variety of foods. Manufacturers add them to products like ice cream, frozen yogurt, and fruit bars to achieve appealing visual characteristics without using artificial dyes.

Beet juice extract and turmeric are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as food colorants. They are widely consumed in typical food amounts and are not associated with significant health concerns. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated natural food colorants, and these are considered safe when used as intended. There are no major controversies surrounding their use in food.
