What it is

Grapefruit juice concentrate is made by removing water from grapefruit juice. This process intensifies the flavor and aroma of the grapefruit. It is often reconstituted with water to create regular grapefruit juice or used as a flavoring ingredient.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use grapefruit juice concentrate to add a tart, citrus flavor to a variety of products. It is commonly found in beverages like juices, sparkling drinks, and sodas, as well as in candies and other food items where a grapefruit taste is desired.

Health notes

Grapefruit juice concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food ingredient. It is a source of vitamin C and antioxidants. However, grapefruit and its concentrated forms can interact with certain medications, affecting how the body processes them. Consumers taking medication should consult their doctor about consuming grapefruit products.

Allergen info

Grapefruit juice concentrate is not derived from any of the 9 FDA major allergens. It does not contain gluten.
