Yellow 6 is a synthetic orange-yellow food dye. It is manufactured from petroleum. It is also known as Sunset Yellow FCF.

Manufacturers add Yellow 6 to foods to impart an orange or yellow color. It is commonly found in products like candy, popcorn, snacks, and baked goods such as toaster pastries and muffins.

Yellow 6 is an FDA-approved food additive. The FDA announced in April 2025 a plan to phase out petroleum-based synthetic dyes, including Yellow 6. Some studies have suggested a link between synthetic food dyes, including Yellow 6, and hyperactivity in some children, though evidence on this topic is mixed. JECFA has evaluated Yellow 6 and set an acceptable daily intake. EFSA has also evaluated this additive.
