FD&C Blue #1, also known as Brilliant Blue FCF, is a synthetic organic compound produced from petroleum. It is a water-soluble blue dye used to impart color to food, drugs, and cosmetics.

Manufacturers add FD&C Blue #1 to provide a bright blue color to various food products. It is commonly found in candies, beverages, baked goods, dairy products, and cereals to enhance their visual appeal.

FD&C Blue #1 is an FDA-approved color additive for use in food. JECFA has evaluated it and set an acceptable daily intake. Some studies have suggested a possible link between synthetic food dyes, including Blue #1, and hyperactivity in some children, though evidence is mixed and not conclusive across all populations. In April 2025, the FDA announced a plan to phase out petroleum-based synthetic dyes, including FD&C Blue #1, from the food supply.
