Natural And Artificial Flavors From Non-meat Sources

Natural and artificial flavors are complex mixtures that give food a specific taste or aroma. Natural flavors are derived from plant or animal sources, while artificial flavors are created synthetically. Both types are used to enhance or impart flavor in food products.

Manufacturers add natural and artificial flavors to improve the taste and aroma of foods, especially in processed items. They are found in a wide variety of products, including beverages, baked goods, snacks, and savory dishes, to create desirable flavor profiles.

The FDA regulates flavors, with many considered Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS). Flavorings are generally used in very small amounts. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated many flavor compounds, often setting acceptable daily intake levels. While generally considered safe at typical consumption levels, some individuals may have sensitivities to specific flavor compounds.
