Organic Alfalfa Grass Powder

Organic alfalfa grass powder is made from the dried and ground leaves of the alfalfa plant (Medicago sativa). Alfalfa is a perennial flowering plant in the pea family, grown for its use as a forage crop. The leaves are typically harvested when young and tender, then dried and milled into a fine powder.

Manufacturers add organic alfalfa grass powder as a source of nutrients and for its vibrant green color. It is often found in "super green" blends, smoothies, protein powders, and health-focused snacks. Its mild, grassy flavor can complement other ingredients in these products.

Organic alfalfa grass powder is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food ingredient. It is a source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. While it contains beneficial compounds, it is not a significant source of calories or macronutrients at typical usage levels. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated various food ingredients, but specific evaluations for alfalfa grass powder as a standalone ingredient are not widely published.
