What it is

Organic apple concentrate is made by removing water from organic apple juice. This process intensifies the natural apple flavor and color. It is used as a natural source of sweetness and apple taste.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use organic apple concentrate to add natural apple flavor and sweetness to foods. It is commonly found in beverages like fruit juices and nectars, as well as in fruit snacks and applesauce.

Health notes

Organic apple concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as intended. It is a natural fruit product and does not have specific regulatory limits set by bodies like JECFA or EFSA. Evidence does not suggest adverse health effects from consuming typical amounts found in food.

Allergen info

Not a major allergen. It is derived from apples, which are not among the nine major allergens recognized by the FDA.
