Organic Yellow Mustard Seed

Organic yellow mustard seed comes from the *Brassica alba* or *Sinapis flava* plant, which is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The seeds are harvested from the plant and are typically dried. They can be used whole, ground, or as a base for mustard paste.

Mustard seeds are primarily used to add a pungent, spicy flavor to foods. They act as a key ingredient in mustard condiments, but are also found in salad dressings, sauces, rubs, and marinades. The seeds can also serve as a natural emulsifier and thickener in some recipes.

Mustard seed is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It is a common ingredient in many cuisines and is consumed in typical amounts without adverse health effects. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has evaluated mustard seed, but did not establish a numeric acceptable daily intake (ADI). Research into potential health benefits, such as antioxidant properties, is ongoing.
