Paprika And Turmeric Extracts

Paprika extract is a red to orange-red liquid or powder derived from paprika peppers. Turmeric extract is a yellow liquid or powder made from turmeric rhizomes. Both are used to add color to foods.

These extracts are primarily used as natural food colorings, providing vibrant red, orange, and yellow hues. They are found in a variety of products including snacks, baked goods, sauces, and processed meats.

Paprika and turmeric extracts are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as food colorings. They are considered natural colorants and do not have specific ADIs set by JECFA or EFSA. Research suggests that curcumin, the main compound in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory properties, but more studies are needed to confirm these effects in humans at typical dietary intake levels. No significant health concerns are associated with their consumption at levels used in food.
