What it is

Passion fruit juice from concentrate is made from the pulp of passion fruits. To create it, juice is extracted from ripe passion fruits, then water is removed through evaporation to concentrate the flavor and solids. Later, water is added back to reach the desired consistency.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use passion fruit juice from concentrate primarily as a flavoring ingredient. Its distinct tropical taste is popular in beverages like juices, smoothies, and cocktails. It's also used to add flavor to dairy products, desserts, and baked goods.

Health notes

Passion fruit juice from concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food ingredient. It contains natural sugars, vitamins, and antioxidants. While generally considered safe, excessive consumption of any fruit juice can contribute to high sugar intake. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated fruit juices, but specific regulatory limits for this ingredient are not typically set.

Allergen info

Passion fruit is not one of the nine major allergens identified by the FDA. It does not contain gluten.
