Pomegranate Flavor

Pomegranate flavor is a flavoring substance that mimics the taste and aroma of pomegranate fruit. It can be derived from natural sources, such as pomegranate extract, or created synthetically using various chemical compounds. These compounds are carefully blended to replicate the sweet, tart, and slightly floral notes characteristic of pomegranates.

Manufacturers use pomegranate flavor to enhance the taste of a wide range of food and beverage products. It is commonly found in juices, nectars, flavored waters, teas, yogurts, candies, and baked goods. The goal is to provide a desirable fruity taste without necessarily using the actual fruit, which can be more expensive or inconsistent in flavor.

Pomegranate flavorings are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as flavoring agents. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated many flavoring substances, though specific evaluations for every single pomegranate flavor compound may vary. At typical consumption levels, these flavors are not associated with adverse health effects. Research into the health benefits of pomegranate fruit itself is ongoing, but these benefits are not directly attributed to the artificial flavorings.
