What it is

Red grape juice concentrate is made by removing water from red grape juice. This process intensifies the color and flavor of the grapes. It is used to add a concentrated grape taste and color to various food products.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use red grape juice concentrate primarily for its intense color and flavor. It acts as a natural coloring agent and flavor enhancer in products like jams, jellies, fruit spreads, and beverages.

Health notes

Red grape juice concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food ingredient. It contains natural sugars and antioxidants found in grapes. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated grape juice and its components, but specific evaluations of the concentrate's health effects at typical intake levels are not widely published.

Allergen info

Not a major allergen. Grape is not one of the nine FDA major allergens, nor is it a source of gluten.
