What it is

Red raspberry juice concentrate is made from red raspberries. The juice is extracted from the fruit and then concentrated by removing water, intensifying the color and flavor.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use it to add natural red color and raspberry flavor to foods and beverages. It is commonly found in fruit-flavored drinks, desserts like ice cream, and salad dressings.

Health notes

Red raspberry juice concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It is a source of natural sugars and antioxidants found in raspberries. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated similar fruit concentrates, but no specific ADI is set for this ingredient. Evidence does not suggest adverse health effects at typical consumption levels.

Allergen info

Not a major allergen. Raspberries are not among the nine major food allergens.
