Super Berries

Super Berries is not a scientifically defined term. It is a marketing term used by food manufacturers to describe a blend of various berries and other fruits and vegetables, often including nutrient-dense ingredients like acai, goji, blueberries, raspberries, and spinach. These blends are typically dried and powdered for use in food products.

Manufacturers use Super Berry blends to add a perceived nutritional boost and natural color to products. They are commonly found in powders for drinks, meal replacements, protein supplements, and baked goods. The term suggests a high concentration of antioxidants and vitamins.

Super Berries themselves are not evaluated by regulatory bodies like the FDA or EFSA as a single ingredient. The individual fruits and vegetables within a blend are generally recognized as safe and are sources of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Some studies suggest that antioxidants found in berries may offer health benefits, but more research is needed. JECFA has evaluated many individual berry components and established acceptable daily intakes for some.
