The Following: Natural And Artificial Crab Flavor

This ingredient provides a crab-like taste. It can be made from natural sources, such as actual crab, or created artificially using various chemical compounds. Often, a combination of natural and artificial flavors is used to achieve a desired taste profile.

Manufacturers use natural and artificial crab flavor to impart a seafood taste to products where real crab might not be used or to enhance the existing crab flavor. It is commonly found in imitation crab meat, seafood sauces, frozen appetizers like crab rangoon, and some snack foods.

Flavorings, whether natural or artificial, are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as intended. The specific chemical components of artificial flavors are reviewed for safety. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA evaluate flavorings, but specific health impacts at typical consumption levels are not a significant concern for most approved flavor compounds. No major controversies exist regarding the use of these flavorings in food.
