What it is

Watermelon juice from concentrate is made by extracting juice from fresh watermelons and then removing water through evaporation. This concentrated juice is later reconstituted by adding water back to it before it is used in food products.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use watermelon juice from concentrate to add a natural watermelon flavor and color to beverages, candies, and other food items. It functions primarily as a flavoring agent and contributes to the fruity profile of products like fruit drinks and candies.

Health notes

Watermelon juice from concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food ingredient. It is a source of natural sugars and provides some vitamins and minerals found in watermelon. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated fruit juices, but specific evaluations for 'watermelon juice from concentrate' may vary.

Allergen info

Watermelon is not one of the nine major allergens recognized by the FDA. It does not contain gluten.
