Coffee is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for its intended use as a food ingredient. The FDA has not set specific upper intake levels for coffee consumption. Major health organizations like the WHO and EFSA have evaluated coffee and its components, noting potential benefits associated with moderate consumption, such as reduced risk of certain diseases. However, high intake can lead to side effects like anxiety and sleep disturbances.
