What it is

Concord grape juice concentrate is made from Concord grapes, a variety known for its deep purple color and distinct flavor. To create the concentrate, juice is extracted from the grapes, and then most of the water is removed through evaporation, resulting in a thicker, more concentrated liquid.

Why it's used

Manufacturers use Concord grape juice concentrate primarily for its intense flavor and color. It is added to a variety of products to provide a natural grape taste and appearance, including juices, jams, jellies, candies, and baked goods.

Health notes

Concord grape juice concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It contains natural sugars and antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, which have been studied for potential health benefits. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated grape juice and its derivatives. Evidence regarding the specific health effects of concentrated grape juice at typical dietary levels is ongoing.

Allergen info

Concord grape juice concentrate is not derived from any of the nine FDA major allergens. It does not contain gluten.
