Including Paprika And Tumeric

Paprika and turmeric are spices derived from plants. Paprika comes from dried, ground red peppers (Capsicum annuum), while turmeric comes from the dried, ground root of the Curcuma longa plant. Both are used to add color and flavor to foods.

These spices are primarily used to impart a yellow-orange to red color and a warm, earthy flavor to a wide variety of foods. They are common in spice blends, marinades, sauces, processed meats, and snack foods, enhancing both the visual appeal and taste profile.

Paprika and turmeric are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as food ingredients. They are widely consumed in many diets and are not associated with significant health concerns at typical dietary levels. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated various food additives, but specific evaluations for paprika and turmeric as spices are less common as they are naturally occurring flavorings. Research has explored potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of compounds found in turmeric, but more human studies are needed to confirm these effects.
