May Contain Chocolate Chips

Chocolate chips are small pieces of chocolate, typically teardrop-shaped or disc-shaped. They are made from a mixture of cocoa solids, cocoa butter, sugar, and often milk solids and an emulsifier like soy lecithin. They are designed to retain their shape when baked.

Manufacturers add chocolate chips primarily for their distinct chocolate flavor, sweet taste, and textural contrast in various baked goods. They are commonly found in cookies, cakes, muffins, pancakes, and other desserts to enhance palatability and visual appeal.

Chocolate chips are a composite food ingredient, not a single food additive. Their nutritional profile depends on the type (e.g., dark, milk, white) and specific formulation, but they generally contribute sugar and fat to a product. The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend no amount of added sugars, and advise limiting saturated fat to less than 10% of daily calories. No specific regulatory body like JECFA or EFSA evaluates "chocolate chips" as a single entity; their individual components (like sugar or cocoa) are evaluated separately.
