Pomegranate Flavored Cranberries

Pomegranate flavored cranberries are dried cranberries that have been treated to taste like pomegranate. Cranberries are small, tart berries native to North America. The flavoring is typically achieved using artificial or natural flavorings, and sometimes sweeteners or colorings.

Manufacturers add pomegranate flavoring to dried cranberries to create a unique sweet and tart taste profile. This flavor is often used in snack foods, cereals, and baked goods, as well as in salad dressings and trail mixes.

Pomegranate flavoring itself is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food additive. The safety of specific flavoring compounds is evaluated by the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) and accepted by the FDA. JECFA has evaluated various flavoring substances. Typical intake levels are unlikely to pose health risks.
