Soybean And Palm With TBHQ For Freshness

This ingredient is a blend of soybean oil and palm oil, with tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) added. Soybean oil is extracted from soybeans, and palm oil comes from the fruit of oil palms. TBHQ is a synthetic antioxidant.

TBHQ is added to oils and fats to prevent them from going rancid, extending the shelf life of packaged foods. It is commonly found in baked goods, fried foods, and processed snacks where oils are used.

TBHQ is approved by the FDA as a food additive to preserve freshness. Studies in animals have looked at its effects, but the FDA has determined it is safe at levels typically found in food. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has also evaluated TBHQ. Some research has explored potential health effects, but regulatory bodies consider it safe for consumption within established limits.
