The Following: Hot Sauce

Hot sauce is a condiment made from chili peppers, vinegar, and seasonings. The peppers are typically mashed or blended, then mixed with vinegar and other ingredients like garlic, onion, or spices. The mixture is often cooked and then bottled.

Hot sauce is used to add heat and flavor to a wide variety of foods. Manufacturers add it to products like chips, snacks, entrees, and sauces to provide a spicy taste profile that consumers enjoy. It can also act as a preservative due to its vinegar content.

Hot sauce is generally considered safe for consumption. The FDA does not have specific regulations for hot sauce as a product, but its ingredients are subject to general food safety laws. While some people experience digestive upset from spicy foods, typical consumption is not linked to adverse health effects. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated many of the common ingredients found in hot sauce, such as vinegar and spices.
