To prevent sticking is not a single ingredient but a category of food additives. These substances are added to foods to stop them from sticking to each other, to packaging, or to cooking surfaces. They often work by creating a barrier or by altering the food's surface properties.

Manufacturers use anti-sticking agents to improve the texture and handling of foods, especially in processed items. They are commonly found in baked goods like cakes and cookies, candies, and dessert mixes to ensure products maintain their shape and don't clump together during production or consumption.

Many common anti-sticking agents are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. For example, silicon dioxide and cellulose derivatives are widely used and have a long history of safe use. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated many of these substances. While generally considered safe at typical levels, very high intakes of some anti-sticking agents might cause digestive upset, though this is rare with normal food consumption.
