Vodka

Vodka is a clear, distilled alcoholic beverage typically made from fermented grains like wheat or rye, or from potatoes. The fermentation process creates alcohol, which is then distilled to purify and concentrate it, often resulting in a neutral spirit.

In packaged foods, vodka is primarily used as a flavoring agent or as a solvent to extract and carry other flavors. It can also contribute to the texture or moisture content of certain products. It is found in items like pasta sauces, chocolates, and baked goods.

When used as a food ingredient, alcohol (ethanol), the primary component of vodka, is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used according to good manufacturing practices. The amount of alcohol present in prepared foods is typically very low, and much of it may evaporate during cooking or processing. Therefore, at typical intake levels from packaged foods, it is not expected to have significant physiological effects associated with alcohol consumption. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA do not typically evaluate vodka as a food additive.
