And Oat Fiber

Oat fiber is a type of dietary fiber derived from oats. It is produced by grinding dried oats and then separating the fiber components from the starches and proteins. This process results in a concentrated source of insoluble fiber.

Manufacturers add oat fiber to foods to increase their fiber content and improve texture. It can act as a bulking agent, helping to create a more satisfying mouthfeel without adding significant calories or carbohydrates. It is commonly found in baked goods, snacks like chips and pretzels, and some meat alternatives.

Oat fiber is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It is a source of dietary fiber, which is important for digestive health. Regulatory bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated dietary fibers, recognizing their role in a healthy diet. While generally considered beneficial, high fiber intake can cause digestive discomfort for some individuals.
