Canola Corn Oil Cheeses Cheddar Cheese

Canola oil is a vegetable oil made from the seeds of the canola plant. The plant is a cultivar of rapeseed, bred to have lower levels of erucic acid and glucosinolates, making it more suitable for consumption. It is processed and refined for use in food products.

Canola oil is a widely used cooking oil due to its neutral flavor and high smoke point. Manufacturers add it to a variety of foods, including baked goods, dressings, and processed snacks, for its cooking properties and to add fat content.

Canola oil is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It is a source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, including omega-3 fatty acids. JECFA and EFSA have evaluated canola oil and found it safe for consumption. Some studies suggest potential benefits of unsaturated fats for heart health, while others have raised questions about processing and genetic modification, though evidence is mixed and not conclusive.
