Hot Dog Made With Turkey And Chicken

Hot dogs made with turkey and chicken are processed meat products where poultry, primarily turkey and chicken, replaces some or all of the traditional pork or beef. The poultry is typically ground and mixed with water, curing agents (like salt and nitrates), spices, and sometimes other ingredients before being encased and cooked.

These hot dogs are used as a lower-fat alternative to traditional pork or beef hot dogs. They are commonly found in packaged hot dog products, frozen corn dogs, and other convenience foods where a poultry-based sausage is desired.

Hot dogs made with turkey and chicken are subject to FDA regulations for meat products. Like other processed meats, they can be high in sodium and may contain nitrates or nitrites, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans when consumed in large amounts from processed meat. The WHO/FAO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has evaluated many food additives used in processed meats, such as nitrates and nitrites, and established acceptable daily intakes. Evidence on the health effects of processed meat consumption is mixed, with some studies linking it to increased risk of certain chronic diseases, while others suggest moderate consumption may not pose significant risks.
