Red And Green Jalapeo Peppers

Jalapeño peppers are a medium-sized chili pepper variety of the species Capsicum annuum. They are typically harvested when green, but can be left on the plant to ripen to red. Jalapeños are known for their moderate heat, with a Scoville heat unit rating typically between 2,500 and 8,000.

Jalapeños are used to add a spicy flavor and a touch of heat to a wide variety of foods. They are commonly found in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine, as well as in snacks, sauces, salsas, and cheese products. Manufacturers use them for their distinct flavor profile and mild to moderate pungency.

Jalapeño peppers are a natural food ingredient and are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as a food. They contain capsaicin, the compound responsible for their heat, which may have some health benefits in moderation. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated chili peppers and their extracts. Evidence regarding specific health effects at typical dietary intake levels is ongoing, but they are not typically associated with adverse health outcomes when consumed as part of a balanced diet.
