Manufacturers add anti-caking agents to powdered foods to ensure they remain free-flowing and easy to dispense. They prevent ingredients like salt, spices, and baking mixes from sticking together, especially in humid conditions. You can find them in seasonings, salts, powdered beverages, and baking mixes.

Silicon dioxide is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as an anti-caking agent. It passes through the digestive system largely unabsorbed. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated silicon dioxide and found it safe for consumption. There is no evidence to suggest adverse health effects from consuming silicon dioxide at typical levels found in food.
