Cherries Artificially Colored Red With Carmine

In the U.S., carmine is approved by the FDA as a color additive. While generally recognized as safe (GRAS), some individuals have reported allergic reactions, including hives, asthma, and anaphylaxis, particularly after consuming products containing carmine. The FDA requires carmine to be declared on ingredient labels. JECFA and EFSA have evaluated carmine and established acceptable daily intakes.
