Brilliant Blue FCF (also known as FD&C Blue No. 1) is a synthetic blue food dye. It is produced from petroleum and is a water-soluble azo dye.

Manufacturers add Brilliant Blue FCF to foods to give them a blue color. It is commonly found in candies, beverages, baked goods, dairy products, and some processed fruits and vegetables.

Brilliant Blue FCF is approved by the FDA as a color additive in food. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has evaluated Brilliant Blue FCF and established an acceptable daily intake. Some studies have explored potential links between artificial food dyes, including Brilliant Blue FCF, and hyperactivity in children, but the evidence is mixed and regulatory bodies have not established a causal link at typical consumption levels.
