Filled With: Marinara Sauce

Marinara sauce is a tomato-based sauce that typically includes tomatoes, onions, garlic, and herbs like basil and oregano. It is a staple in Italian-American cuisine, often made by simmering these ingredients together. The sauce can vary in texture and flavor depending on the specific recipe and ingredients used.

Marinara sauce is primarily used as a flavorful base or topping for a variety of dishes. Manufacturers add it to provide a savory, slightly sweet, and acidic tomato flavor. It is commonly found in pasta dishes, as a dipping sauce for appetizers, and as a component in frozen meals and prepared entrees.

Marinara sauce is generally considered safe for consumption. Tomatoes are a good source of vitamins and antioxidants. While no specific regulatory body sets limits for marinara sauce itself, the FDA regulates its individual ingredients. Some studies suggest that lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes, may have health benefits, but evidence is mixed. High sodium content can be a concern in commercially prepared sauces, and the FDA Daily Value for sodium is 2,300 mg.
