L-alanyl-l-glutamine

L-alanyl-L-glutamine is a dipeptide made from two amino acids, alanine and glutamine. It is produced through chemical synthesis or enzymatic processes.

Manufacturers add L-alanyl-L-glutamine to foods and beverages as a source of amino acids, particularly for sports nutrition products. It is often found in energy drinks, protein supplements, and recovery beverages.

L-alanyl-L-glutamine is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as a food ingredient. It is a source of amino acids that the body uses for various functions. International bodies like JECFA and EFSA have evaluated glutamine and its derivatives, but specific evaluations for L-alanyl-L-glutamine may vary. Research suggests it can be beneficial for muscle recovery and gut health in specific contexts, but more studies are needed to fully understand its effects at typical dietary intakes.
