Organic Hemp Protein Powder

Organic hemp protein powder is made from the seeds of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa L.). After the oil is pressed from the seeds, the remaining cake is milled into a fine powder. It is a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids.

Manufacturers add organic hemp protein powder to boost the protein content of foods and beverages. It is commonly found in protein powders, smoothies, energy bars, and baked goods. Its mild, nutty flavor and slightly gritty texture are generally well-tolerated in these applications.

Organic hemp protein powder is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA when used as intended. It is a good source of plant-based protein and fiber. JECFA has evaluated hemp seeds and their derivatives, and EFSA has also assessed hemp seed protein. Evidence does not suggest adverse health effects from consuming hemp protein powder at typical dietary levels.
