Organic Spirulina Powder

Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae, a single-celled organism that grows in both fresh and saltwater. It is typically cultivated in large ponds or bioreactors and then dried and processed into a powder. The vibrant green color comes from chlorophyll and phycocyanin, pigments found in the algae.

Spirulina powder is often added to foods and beverages as a natural green colorant and as a source of nutrients. It is commonly found in dietary supplements, smoothies, juices, and powdered drink mixes. Its earthy, slightly savory flavor can also contribute to the overall taste profile of a product.

Spirulina is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use as a food ingredient. It is a source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. International bodies like JECFA have evaluated spirulina, and EFSA has also reviewed its safety. Some studies suggest potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, but more research is needed to confirm these benefits at typical dietary intake levels.
