Organic Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Cocoa powder is made from dried, roasted cocoa beans. The beans are ground into a paste, which is then pressed to remove most of the cocoa butter (fat). The remaining solids are pulverized into a fine powder. Organic cocoa powder is produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.

Cocoa powder is primarily used to provide a chocolate flavor and color to foods. It is a key ingredient in baked goods like cakes and cookies, as well as in chocolate candies, ice creams, and beverages. It can also add a slightly bitter note that balances sweetness.

Cocoa powder is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It contains flavanols, which are plant compounds that may have antioxidant properties. Some research suggests potential benefits for heart health, but more studies are needed. JECFA has evaluated cocoa and cocoa products, and EFSA has also assessed cocoa flavanols. Evidence on health effects is still developing.
