Organic Chicken

Organic chicken is meat from chickens raised under specific organic farming standards. These standards, set by the USDA, include requirements for their feed, living conditions, and how they are treated. It is produced by farming chickens without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms in their feed.

Organic chicken is primarily used as a protein source in a wide variety of packaged foods. It is often found in prepared meals, soups, sausages, and other convenience foods where chicken is a main ingredient. Manufacturers use it to provide flavor, texture, and nutritional value.

In the United States, the 'organic' label for chicken is regulated by the USDA's National Organic Program, not the FDA as a food additive. The USDA organic seal indicates that the chicken has been produced according to federal organic standards. There are no specific health implications for organic chicken itself beyond those of conventional chicken, as it is a whole food, not an additive. JECFA and EFSA do not evaluate whole foods like chicken as food additives.
