Organic Salt

Salt is a mineral composed primarily of sodium chloride. It is obtained either by evaporating seawater (sea salt) or by mining underground deposits (rock salt). The term "organic" when applied to salt is a marketing descriptor, as salt is an inorganic mineral and cannot be certified organic by USDA standards.

Salt is widely used as a flavor enhancer, adding taste to a vast array of foods. It also functions as a preservative, helping to cure meats and prevent spoilage in many processed products. It is a common ingredient in seasonings, baked goods, sauces, and snack foods.

Salt (sodium chloride) is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. It is an essential nutrient needed for proper body function, but high intake is a public health concern. The FDA Daily Value for sodium is 2,300 mg. Excessive sodium intake is linked to high blood pressure, which can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
