Reishi Mushroom Powder

Reishi mushroom powder is made from the dried fruiting body of the Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum). This mushroom grows on decaying wood in various forest environments globally. The mushroom is typically dried and then ground into a fine powder for use in food products and supplements.

Reishi mushroom powder is often added to foods and beverages for its perceived health benefits and earthy flavor. It is commonly found in energy bars, meal replacement supplements, and some drinks. Manufacturers may use it as a functional ingredient rather than for a specific processing purpose like sweetening or preserving.

Reishi mushroom powder is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA for use in food. It is often consumed for its potential immune-modulating and adaptogenic properties, though scientific evidence for these effects in humans is still developing. The WHO and EFSA have not specifically evaluated reishi mushroom powder for food additive purposes. Some studies suggest potential benefits, while others indicate a need for more research, particularly regarding long-term effects and interactions.
