Coffee is a widely consumed beverage made from roasted coffee beans. This category includes a variety of coffee products, such as whole roasted beans, ground coffee, instant coffee, and ready-to-drink coffee beverages. When selecting coffee, especially flavored or pre-sweetened options, checking the Nutrition Facts label and ingredient list is helpful. Pay close attention to "Added Sugars." The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) suggest limiting added sugars, recommending no amount of added sugars, and at most 10 grams per meal. For products containing creamers or milk, also look at "Saturated Fat"; the DGA recommends keeping saturated fat intake under 10% of daily calories. Sodium content, for which the FDA sets a Daily Value of 2,300 mg for adults, can also be present in some instant or flavored varieties. The ingredient list will show if coffee is the primary component and if other ingredients like sweeteners or oils are included.
